## ਅੱਜ ਦੀ ਔਰਤ ਨੂੰ ##

ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਆਂ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ ਸੀ
ਬੇਵੱਸ ਦਾ ਦਰਦ ਵੰਡਾਇਆ ਸੀ
ਸਿਰ ਢਕ ਕੇ ਦੋਜ਼ਖ ਢਾਇਆ ਸੀ
ਨੱਥ ਭੰਨ੍ਹ ਕੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਗ ਫੜ੍ਹਾਇਆ ਸੀ...

ਜੀਹਨੂੰ ਕੁੱਲ ਜਹਾਨ ਨੇ ਭੰਡਿਆ ਸੀ
'ਰਾਜੇ ਦੀ ਜਨਣੀ' ਵਰ ਦਿੱਤਾ
ਜੋ ਸੂਤਕ ਕਹਿ-ਕਹਿ ਕੁੜ੍ਹਦਾ ਸੀ
ਓਹਨੂੰ ਇੱਕ ਸ਼ਬਦ ਨਾਲ ਸਰ ਲਿੱਤਾ...

ਗੜ੍ਹ ਭੰਨ੍ਹਿਆਂ ਓਸ ਗੁਲਾਮੀ ਦਾ
ਜੀਹਨੇ ਸਦੀਆਂ ਤੋਂ ਬੰਨ੍ਹ ਰੱਖਿਆ ਸੀ
ਮਾਈ ਭਾਗੋ ਨੇ ਜਦ ਤੇਗ ਵਾਹੀ
ਓਹਨੇ 'ਪਰਦਾ ਉਠਦਾ' ਤੱਕਿਆ ਸੀ...

ਕਦੇ ਬੈਠ ਚਿਖ਼ਾ 'ਤੇ ਸੜਦੀ ਰਹੀ
ਜਾਂ ਪਰਦੇ ਹੇਠ ਹੀ ਧੁਖ਼ਦੀ ਰਹੀ
ਜਾਂ ਪਿਓ ਦਾ ਰਾਜ ਬਚਾਵਣ ਲਈ
ਜੋ ਗਾਈਆਂ ਵਾਂਗਰ ਵਿਕਦੀ ਰਹੀ...

ਖੰਡੇ ਦੀ ਧਾਰ ਚੋਂ ਚਖ਼ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ
ਜਦ ਸ਼ਸਤਰਧਾਰੀ ਕੌਰ ਹੋਈ
ਫਿਰ ਰਹੀ ਜੂਝਦੀ ਰਣ-ਤੱਤੇ
ਬਾਣੀ ਪੜ੍ਹ ਹੋਰ ਦੀ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਈ...

ਸੁਖਮਨੀ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਦੀ ਮਧੁਰ ਧੁਨੀ
ਓਹਦੇ ਸਵਾਸਾਂ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਸਦੀ ਸੀ
ਸੀ ਸਹਿਜ ਅਡੋਲ ਤੇ 'ਮਨ ਨੀਵਾਂ-
ਮਤ ਉਚੀ' ਕਰ ਕੇ ਰਖਦੀ ਸੀ...

ਓਹਨੂੰ ਸਾਈਆਂ ਤਖ਼ਤ ਬਿਠਾਇਆ ਸੀ

"TWENTY TWO"

.

Yesterday evening, Naresh asked me on the dinner table,
”What is so special about twenty two?”
Me, “Is there some arithmetic property of 22 which you want to discuss?”
Naresh,”Please don’t mind. I had visited your orkut and seen people calling you names with 22. Is it your tease from school?”

I broke down laughing and then explained him that, in spoken Punjabi, we address a person with the prefix ‘bai ji’ just like ‘bhai saheb’ in Hindi and 'twenty two' also has the same pronunciation ‘bai’. Thus ’22g’ is a shortcut for ‘bai ji’ and ‘100ri 22g’ means ‘sorry bhai saheb’. Then suddenly one other person stepped in between and said,

”bai, matlab maid servant, kaam kaaj karne wali......”
